A Lesson: haters gonna hate

How appropriate, “Bittersweet Symphony” (the Vitamin String Quartet version) just came on as I was beginning this post.

I have discovered something I would like to share with you all. There are multiple types of haters. I have interacted with a couple since my leave from Oklahoma and since being back here in DC….

1) The hater who hates you. This hater hates you and everything you stand for. Sometimes they have purpose and reason behind their hate and sometimes they dont… sometimes you screwed em over and whether it was intentional or not, they still hate you with all of their being. They can intentionally make your life a living hell and every time you are around them, without realizing what is happening, you shrink down and become really tiny…. hoping they wont see you and make comments or anything…

2) The hater who hates everything. This hater hates everything. Everything in the world is out to get them and attack them and no matter what you point out about how that bird didnt specifically target them with their shit and drop it on them on purpose, they still seem to think the  bird shat on them on purpose, etc. And somehow, it always ends up being someone else’s fault. While I feel for these types of haters, it is really hard to not get caught up in their hatred, so be forewarned.

3) The combo hater. The hater who hates you and everything else too. No explanation needed.

I have decided that even if all the haters in the world wanted to stop hating, they wouldn’t because they would miss the drama. Prolly wouldn’t know what to do or how to replace the drama with reality tv or something. Well, here is my statement to all of the haters out there.

While your hatred and your words are funny, please take it else where, cause I got big dreams and only a short time to do it in if I am gonna retire by the time I am 42 to travel the world. So get out my way. Stare at my nice ass as I walk away from you and remember my name, cause you can say “I hated on her once upon a time, and I hate her more now.” LOVE IT. LOVE ALL OF IT! and side note, I like to laugh at it too. I was the principal’s kid in high school. I was a nerd. My brother was a nerd. And we were hated on then and we are hated on now for being AWESOME. IT WONT PHASE ME! So, try it, but it wont affect me. Get in my way and I will just side step you. (I would say I will push you down, but I wouldn’t wanna catch the hate) Keep hatin, and doin you… imma do me.

And to all of the other positive people who want to stay positive and want to not get sucked in, just go to your happy place and don’t let the haters bring you down. They can’t hurt you if you don’t let em. Their words that they say are a reflection of how they think about themselves. Don’t let it get to ya. YOU’RE AWESOME!

and now for your monday listening pleasure. get your day started right!

Happy Thursday People!

yknow, I have lived all over. I started my journey in Georgetown Univ Hospital as a wee babe and hit up the suburbs after a few years with the folks and then to college in W Lafayette IN at Purdue (we will call these the glory years); then to foggy bottom; down to Miami, back up to dc, to San Fran and then out to Oklahoma/Texas area…. now I am back in DC….

While I have loved several of the places I have been fortunate enough to live in, none of the places can even compare to DC and the love and connection I feel towards this city. From the beginning of the year to the end, there is always something to celebrate. I wont break it all down for you but I will say that the electricity that runs through this city and fills its people with excitement is amazing. An example would be our losing sports teams… I am a supporter of all teams DC, taking time to specifically follow DC United, the Nats, the Caps, and most importantly the Redskins. The Redskins, have not had a significant season since the passing of Sean Taylor and the end of the second reign of Joe Gibbs (and as sad as I am to say it, that season, while promising, was not as significant as the late 80s and early 90s), and yet even despite the lack of winning and the hatred many fans share towards Dan Snyder, we still have a solid fan base of hopeful and optimistic supporters! I myself am a delusional and hopeful fan with desires of winning more than 6 games this year and wiping the floor with the cowboys (THIS COULD BE OUR SEASON!!!!! RG3!!!!!!)

Another reason to love the city of DC: politicians. I know it sounds silly… a lot of politicians do and say a lot of stupid things (some do amazing things, but i digress)…. being in dc, we get a front row seat to the amazing and crazy times that often ensue. An example of this is Marion Barry. He won the people over despite his spotted past and is an awesome personality on twitter! He did and still does many great things for the people of DC and Ward 8!

The amazingness and special factor of umph that comes with living here is only magnified by the city’s ability to envelope you when you are feeling down or great or anything really. It takes your feelings and enhances them in some way. Makes everything better. A simple rain shower under a tree in eastern market, a sunrise at l’enfant plaza, the view from the roof of NASA HQ (which I just got to experience), all of these things can take your good mood or your bad mood and make it better.

The list of reasons why I love this city is never ending. The people are the key. As much as I say I HATE people (it’s more that I hate stupidity), I really don’t. The people of DC are unique and interesting. From the metro riders every morning to the tourists who come to see the Cherry Blossoms every spring, to the amazing sports fans; the people are what make and electrify this city.

I was talking to a coworker, and she truly inspired me to write this this morning, reminding me of why I love this city and everything about it, even the things I complain about.

Sorry the thoughts are jumbled. I will leave you with two other photos as we part ways today…

It has come to my attention

happy tuesday!

What I am thankful for…

Sorry to go all sappy on you but this is how I am feelin today.

Well, Thanksgiving was awesome. I spent the week in and out of my Nissan X-Terra, Fredreicha, in the Washington DC metro area with family and friends.

I have a renewed appreciation for my friends at home. They are the most forgiving, loving, and amazing group of people that I know. So many things have happened between myself and various friends from home and yet things don’t change so much, as they do evolve. The friendships I have at home have adapted and for the most part, I am able to go home, see people and pick right up where I left off. I like this. And not only that, but they accepted my fiance with open arms. We had such an amazing time with my family and friends at home this past week. I am thankful for those people that I was able to see and spend time with. I am thankful for the ones that I wasn’t able to meet up with and see also (as they are still very good friends, just missed them this past week due to family activities).

I am thankful for my parents who are amazing people, two of the most amazing and caring people I know and am grateful to have one awesome set of parents who are proud of me and want me to succeed.

I am thankful to my older brother (we are 14 months apart) for a lot of reasons. He is hilarious and intelligent and considerate (thoughtful even). I am most thankful for him, because he showed me this hilarious video:

I am thankful for the people who made time to see me, for the roads not sucking way bad and making my 20 hour drive worse than a 20 hour drive was already… and I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to bring my dog back with me.

I am thankful that I have an understanding and loving fiance who met my extended family and who made the 20 drive with me (there and another 20 hour drive back) and didn’t kill me.

And I am thankful for my good friends out here who welcomed me back last night with big smiles and stories. Amazing people, everyone in my life seems to be.

Hope everyone had a good week and a good thanksgiving. I miss DC.
